Sugandhmantri is a rhizomatous aromatic perennial herb found in Assam, lower altitudes of
Arunachal, Nagaland, Tripura etc. The dry rhizomes are known in trade as ‘Sugandhmantri’.  The large rhizomes bearing withered leaf scales and numerous white rootlets are esteemed as an
aromatic stimulant. Its aromatic rhizomes contain an essential oil used for blending of most
oriental perfume. On steam distillation of rhizome yields yellow coloured essential oil about 1.0%
on air-dry basis. The essential oil has a very good demand in perfumery and cosmetic industries.

Also known as Gandhi root, Sugandh Mantri essential oil is a rare oil native to India. With it’s refreshing scent is is commonly used in perfumery and cosmetics.

HISTORY OF USE

Sugandh mantri oil is extracted from the Gandhi roots by the process of steam distillation. This oil is highly useful for calming nerves as well as spiritual healing.  Sugandh Mantri oil is commonly known as Gandhi roots, fragrant swamp mallow, Pavonia or Fragrant Pavonia. Its scientific name is Homalomena aromatica which is native of India. The erect perennial herb of Sugandh Mantri belongs to the family of Malvaceae. The herb has heart shaped leaves and bears spherical fruits. Plant of Sugandh Mantri is mostly found in swamps of India and is highly used for various purposes. Oil of Sugandh Mantri is extracted by means of Steam distillation of dried roots. It is light yellow colored liquid with thin consistency and has pleasant and refreshing aroma. The mesmerizing oil easily blends with Sandalwood oil and rosewood oil.
