Cedarwood Himalayan (Cedrus Deodora) oil is a yellow viscous oil, which has been used for centuries. Extracted from the Lebanon cedar trees, this oil is perhaps one of the earliest known essential oils and, it is a documented fact, the oil was extensively used by ancient Egyptians in making cosmetics and perfumes. Today, this oil is used extensively to cure various health problems like arthritis, skin and respiratory problems, and the list goes on. As result of its medicinal values, the oil is in great demand in aromatherapy. Because of the soothing effect of its aroma, this oil is used during meditation as the aroma uplifts the spirit and calms the mind. Cedarwood Himalayan oil aids in restoring and revitalizing the body and makes one feel energized. It stabilizes the functioning of the body therefore, contributing a sense of wellbeing. HISTORY OF USE
Himalayan Cedarwood oil is collected from evergreen Cedrus Deodara which grows on slopes of Himalayas in northern India at elevations of 1650 – 2400m. It is a yellow viscous oil, which has been used for centuries. Cedar wood oils in generals are the earliest known essential oils used by humanity for aroma and healing. Cedarwood oil was extensively used by ancient Egyptians in making cosmetics and perfumes. It is also one of the ingredients of ‘mithridat’, which is an antidote for poison that was used by royals, centuries ago.
Cedarwood Himalayan Essential Oil is well known for its detoxing effect where it offers a gentle stimulating effect, and the breakdown, and elimination, of toxins including fatty build up, as in cellulite. Himalayan Cedarwood essential oil is an excellent grounding oil, as it helps relieve tension and anxiety, while inducing sedating and calming effects on the mind. Through calming and soothing the mind, the oil has an affect on those experiencing insomnia. Himalayan Cedarwood is also a tonic for the nervous system, which will soothe the nerves and work as an antidepressant. Effect on Mind & Spirit
Cedarwood Himalayan essential oil has a strong calming, relaxing, and sedating effect.
It can be used in case of extreme stress, and it can even act as a pain reliever by relaxing the muscles. For someone who is very tense, including this in an aromatherapy oil blend can really someone help de-stress and un-wind during an aromatherapy massage. Cedarwood oil is particularly soothing to a strained mind, and it can help relieve anxiety.
Diffused In Air
Since cedar wood oil is both an expectorant and a sedative, it can be used in an aromatherapy oil diffuser to relieve congestion and help cold, flu, and allergy victims fall asleep more easily and rest more deeply.
Follow diffusor manufacturer’s instructions, but typically add about 8 drops.
- Â Â Â Room Deodorizer: Add 15 drops of Himalayan Cedarwood oil per 2oz distilled water and spray as desire.
HEALTH
- Strengthens gums Cedarwood is also an astringent, which gives to oil properties to strengthens gums and loose muscles.
- Sleep Aid It is also a good sleep aid, especially when sleeplessness comes from stress and worry. Because of this, cedar wood oil is often used in an aromatherapy oil diffuser to relieve the symptoms of insomnia. It is often blended with lavender oil for this purpose, and lavender is a great aromatherapy oil for sleeplessness.
- For a tissue detoxing effect try combining with Grapefruit Oil, Lemongrass
- For a pain relieving treatment combining with Peppermint, Eucalyptus
Massage
Blended with Carrier: Use 5 drops per 1 TBL of carrier oil such as grapeseed, jojoba or hazelnut oils, and massage over any area where you would like for healing to occur.
Cosmetic
The astringent properties of Himalayan Cedarwood oil also cause it to give muscles a youthful elasticity and to tighten the pores of the facial skin. Because of the positive effects on pores and skin, cedarwood oil is often used as an ingredient in shaving and men’s skin care products, sometimes blended with other essential oils. The antiseptic and astringent properties of Himalayan Cedarwood oil combine with a warm and woody scent to make it a fantastic addition for men’s shaving products.
A mix of cedarwood and jojoba do miracles for hair. Cedarwood essential oil mixed with jojoba strengthens hair, brings out natural shine and promotes new healthy growth. Same recipe works wonders on scalp as well, riding one of dandruff and many other common skin problems.
- Hair & Scalp:Â 4 drops Himalayan Cedar oil, 4 drops Lemongrass, 4 drops Peppermint, 8 drops Rosemary, 4 drops Lavender in 30ml Jojoba oil.
Bath & Sauna
Aromatherapy products often include Cedarwood oil, especially those designed to be used more in the evening, such as aromatherapy bath oils. I have a gorgeous bath oil, which is blended with a mixture of Cedarwood Himalayan oil and Clary Sage oil, and it is a truly wonderful bath oil after a long, hard day.
There is something to be said about use of Cedarwood oil in saunas. This is probably one of the best oils to use when heading out for a sauna. Warm cedarwood aroma goes really well with Russian dry sauna sessions. It fills the air with cedar scent working its magic on mind and body bringing calm and relaxation. Internally cedarwood breaks down toxins and aids their exportation through sweat.
Place 8 drops into 3 handfuls of bath salt and disperse, or add 8 drops to vodka or whole milk and disperse.
Mosquitos & Bugs
Like many other strong, spicy-scented essential oils, cedarwood oil makes a good all-natural insect repellant. Use cedar wood oil in a vaporiser or an aromatherapy oil diffuser in the kitchen, in the garden, and in other insect-infested areas to drive out flies and mosquitos.
Cedarwood oil, are great natural repellents for clothes moths and carpet moths.
