Armoise Oil has a powerful fragrance, somewhat green and bitter sweet, very soothing, tea like and herbaceous. Armoise Oil is a colourless liquid. The leaves have an antibacterial quality. It is known as diuretic, haemostatic and stomachic. In Aromatherapy its aroma decontaminates the atmosphere and it acts as a deterrent against several insects and pests. It also eases insomnia.
The name ‘Armoise’ was derived from Artemisia, the sister and wife of the Greek/Persian king Mausolus, after his death in 353 BC. During ancient times, Armoise is used as a remedy against intestinal worms, and thus it is named as “wormwood”. During historic times Armoise Oil was used in herbal medicines to improve digestive system, to treat menstrual complaints, and for the treatment of worms. Diluted Oil is used to destroy insect larvae. In Nepal, leaf of Artemisia is used to stop nosebleeds by putting it into nostrils.

Armoise is more commonly known as Mugwort. Mugwort Essential Oil is an important part of Eastern Medicine. Western Medicine tends to fear it and is associated with magic in the West. Mugwort Oil is considered a dreaming oil, as a mental stimulant it helps you remember your dreams or become conscious that you are dreaming without waking you up. This oil is sometimes referred to as Armoise. It is probably more correct to call White Mugwort (Artemisia herba alba) Armoise.

HISTORY OF USE
Mugwort can be considered both famous and infamous. In China, its medicinal properties were used to treat various ailments, while in European countries like England and others, it was used in witchcraft and black magic. Mugwort Essential Oil is extracted by steam distillation of leaves, buds, and flowering tops of the Mugwort tree, which has the scientific name Artemisia Vulgaris. The various components of the essential oil obtained from this plant are alpha thujone, beta thujone, cineole, camphene, and camphone.
The Romans planted mugwort by roadsides where it would be available to passing travelers to place in their shoes to assuage aching feet. St. John the Baptist was reputed to wear a girdle of mugwort when he ventured into the wilderness.
