Beeswax – Golden Premium Quality 1 Pound
Beeswax – Golden Premium Quality, Filtered, Hand-Poured, Organic, Cosmetic-Grade. MADE IN CANADA.
Sourced from a local family apiary in the Greater Toronto Area, consisting of 500 hives. Each prepared brick is 1 pound or 450 grams, enough to last a while. This beeswax melts quickly and easily. It has not been bleached or refined in any way except filtering and melting to remove impurities. All of the natural components remain leaving a beautiful aroma reminiscent of honey, of course.
Beeswax is a natural wax produced in the bee hive of honey bees of the genus Apis. The wax is formed by eight wax-producing glands in the abdominal segments 4 through 7 of worker bees. The workers collect it and use it for structural material in the hive. Chemically, beeswax consists of mainly esters of fatty acids and various long-chain alcohols. The wax is formed by worker bees. The wax of honeycomb is nearly white, but becomes progressively more yellow or brown by incorporation of pollen oils and propolis. Honey bees use the beeswax to build honeycomb cells in which their young are raised with honey and pollen cells being capped for storage. When beekeepers extract the honey, they cut off the wax caps from each honeycomb cell with an uncapping knife or machine. Its color varies from nearly white to brownish, but most often a shade of yellow, depending on purity and the type of flowers gathered by the bees. Beeswax is a tough wax formed from a mixture of several compounds.
BENEFITS
Beeswax is sought after for candle-making due to its slow-burning and clean-burning characteristics. Beeswax candles actually clean and purify the air!
Beeswax was among the first plastics to be used, alongside other natural polymers such as gutta-percha, horn, tortoiseshell, and shellac. For thousands of years, beeswax has had a wide variety of applications; it has been found in the tombs of Egypt, in wrecked Viking ships, and in Roman ruins. Beeswax never goes bad and can be heated and reused. Historically, it has been used:
-As candles – the oldest intact beeswax candles north of the Alps were found in the Alamannic graveyard of Oberflacht, Germany, dating to 6th/7th century AD
-In the manufacture of cosmetics
-As a modelling material in the lost-wax casting process, or cire perdue
-For wax tablets used for a variety of writing purposes
-In encaustic paintings such as the Fayum mummy portraits
-In bow making
-To strengthen and preserve sewing thread
-As a component of sealing wax
-To form the mouthpieces of a didgeridoo, and the frets on the Philippine kutiyapi – a type of boat lute
-As a sealant or lubricant for bullets in cap and ball firearms
-To stabilize the military explosive Torpex – before being replaced by a petroleum-based product
-In producing Javanese batik
-As an ancient form of dental tooth filling
Benefits of Beeswax for the Skin
The health benefits of beeswax for the skin are almost too many to count. Obviously, one of the best benefits of using beeswax on the skin is the moisturizing and the softening. Unlike the artificial and often petroleum based chemicals added to many moisturizers and skin care lotions to aid in absorption, beeswax contains Vitamin A and provides long-term moisturizing, actually locking moisture into the skin. Unlike petroleum based parabens, beeswax remains biologically “alive” even after it is processed!
Healing Properties of Beeswax for Skin & Allergies, Irritation
Besides offering your skin a natural moisture and glow, the anti-allergenic and anti-inflammatory properties of bees wax can actually soothe easily irritated skin, making it one of the best skin care ingredients for those who suffer from allergies or other skin problems like rosacea or eczema.
Along with being a good alternative skin care ingredient for those with allergies, the anti-germicidal properties of beeswax have been found to help heal minor skin cuts, abrasions, scrapes and wounds. Beeswax also acts as a layer of protection when applied to the skin, protecting the skin from environmental irritants and even the weather. Beeswax lip balm is one of the best ways to keep your lips from getting chapped during these cold and windy winter months!
Benefits of Beeswax for the Hair?
It might sound hard to believe, but honey beeswax has many of the same health benefits when applied to the hair as it does when rubbed into your skin. If you want to be healthy and natural, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to rub chemicals into your skin, so why rub artificial ingredients into your hair and your scalp?
Beeswax Promotes Hair Growth?
Some of the best hairstyles are achieved with beeswax, not hair gel or mousse. Beeswax not only moisturizes and smoothes down hair, it also keeps moisture from getting out of the hair. Moisture and ease of styling isn’t all beeswax has to offer your hair, however. It is believed that Beeswax can be used to naturally stimulate hair growth. If you are regrowing your hair or losing your hair, using a little beeswax may help your hair grow back faster or help you stop losing hair as quickly.
