Beeswax – Golden Premium Quality, Filtered, Hand-Poured, Organic, Cosmetic-Grade.  MADE IN CANADA.

Sourced from a local family apiary in the Greater Toronto Area, consisting of 500 hives.  Each prepared brick is 1 pound or 450 grams, enough to last a while.  This beeswax melts quickly and easily.  It has not been bleached or refined in any way except filtering and melting to remove impurities.  All of the natural components remain leaving a beautiful aroma reminiscent of honey, of course.

Beeswax is a natural wax produced in the bee hive of honey bees of the genus Apis. The wax is formed by eight wax-producing glands in the abdominal segments 4 through 7 of worker bees. The workers collect it and use it for structural material in the hive. Chemically, beeswax consists of mainly esters of fatty acids and various long-chain alcohols.  The wax is formed by worker bees.  The wax of honeycomb is nearly white, but becomes progressively more yellow or brown by incorporation of pollen oils and propolis.  Honey bees use the beeswax to build honeycomb cells in which their young are raised with honey and pollen cells being capped for storage.  When beekeepers extract the honey, they cut off the wax caps from each honeycomb cell with an uncapping knife or machine. Its color varies from nearly white to brownish, but most often a shade of yellow, depending on purity and the type of flowers gathered by the bees.  Beeswax is a tough wax formed from a mixture of several compounds.

-To strengthen and preserve sewing thread
-As a component of sealing wax
-To form the mouthpieces of a didgeridoo, and the frets on the Philippine kutiyapi – a type of boat lute
-As a sealant or lubricant for bullets in cap and ball firearms
-To stabilize the military explosive Torpex – before being replaced by a petroleum-based product
-In producing Javanese batik
-As an ancient form of dental tooth filling
