Amber absolute oil comes from the fossilized resin of Pinus succinefera, millions of years old, or sometimes as young as 200 years (copal amber).  Amber absolute oil starts off as a fossilized resin.  The crude essential oil is obtained by dry distillation of the fossil resin.  Amber readily dissolves in ether, alcohol and commercial solvents; it is then ready to be mixed with other things to become some form of amber liquid.

Amber absolute oil is produced from the fossilized sap of the giant prehistoric conifer called Pinus Succinefera. Amber is a fossil resin. The resin flowed out the bark, probably after previous injury, dried up and hardened. There are a variety of different flow forms like drops, mass flows, and “drop-on-drop-flow” called (Schlauben). The latter has more fossil inclusions, because it resulted from thrust-wise resin flow. According to scientists, the oldest well-known amber originates from the Carboniferous epoch and has an age of approximately 345 million years (Upper Carboniferous). Amber is an ingredient in many popular modern-day perfumes. Amber absolute oil is calmative, analgesic, antispasmodic, expectorant, a febrifuge and it encourages harmony and balance. Amber absolute oil has been used to treat ailments, such as asthma and rheumatism. Amber is calming for disturbed conditions, restores equilibrium by harmonizing energy imbalance.

HISTORY OF USE

Amber Oil is one of the oldest fragrant oils in the world; indeed, its use as a trading commodity dates back to 8000 BC. Amber has had various names down the centuries, which includes, ‘Sunstone’, ‘Stone of victory’, ‘Adornment of the daughters of Rome’, and ‘Gold of the North’. Its English name derives from Ancient Arabia where it was burnt as incense and was known as ‘Anbar’ or ‘Ambar’.

Uses:  Amber has been credited with numerous beneficial properties both physical and spiritual. The Ancient Romans and Greeks used it to cure ailments such as asthma, rheumatism and internal problems. Its purported healing powers have extended to epilepsy, jaundice, kidney and bladder complaints and even the plague. It has also been used as an aphrodisiac and to guard against witchcraft. It is now believed to be a good source of beneficial negative ions when worn close to or on the skin. The virtue of an amber preparation was said to be that it: “heals, dries, dissolves; strengthens heart and brain and revives the Animal and Vital Spirits by its sweet sulphur; and is used in perfumes to burn against bad air, and keep the Spirits from infection.” The white odoriferous Amber is the best for physic use, and thought to be of great power and force against many diseases, as against vertigo and asthmaticall paroxysmes, against catarrhes and arthreticall pains, against diseases of the stomach and against diseases of the heart, against plagues, venoms and contagions. Florentine Physicians prescribe some few drops of its oil to be taken in wine for the former purposes. It is used in either powder or oil form.
