Honeysuckle is native to eastern Asia and Japan. The flower, seed, and leaves are used for medicine. The scientific name for Honeysuckle is Lonicera japonica. Japanese Honeysuckle is the common name one of the many different types of honeysuckle species. The Japanese honeysuckle is separated easily from the native honeysuckle vines mainly by the leaves. Leaves near tips of the vines of Japanese honeysuckle are not united at the base, as with the leaves of the three native honeysuckles are united at the base, forming a single leaf surrounding the stem.
The Honeysuckle vines readily invade open natural communities, birds often spread the seeds. The Honeysuckle vine is extremely vigorous, twining, woody, and grows to about 2.5m. The flowers are tubular, 35mm long, cream to orange color, very fragrant, appear in pairs, and extremely attractive to host of insects. The fruits are small, blue-black berries, 5-10mm long, and contain a few seeds. The Honeysuckle prefers an environment of rainforests, riparian areas, waste areas and disturbed sites.
